The Dreamer of Dreams front board has the design of a sword, and lettering in gilt and similar dark blue illustration to the spine.
The binding is original and in Very Good condition being exceptionally clean and bright but with slight darkening to the spine, slight wear to the top and bottom of the spine, and light marks and slight bubbling to the top left corner of the plain cloth to the back board. These are an outstanding set of boards for Edmund Dulac’s The Dreamer of Dreams which is an extremely rare first edition illustrated book.
The Dreamer of Dreams has 177 numbered pages which has an advertisement to the end of the book for The Lilly of Life by The Queen of Roumania with illustrations by Helen Stratton. This book has no date as required and stated in Ann Conolly Hughey’s book Edmund Dulac His Book Illustrations (1995). The book has the misprints to the List of Illustrations, quoting the frontispiece as being opposite page 16 and the plate opposite page 122 is quoted as being opposite page 123.
All 6 Edmund Dulac plates are present with captioned tissue guards and are in Fine condition. The text pages are exceptionally clean and bright and in overall Very Good to Near Fine condition, with light brown marks only to the plain white front endpaper and rear endpaper.
